Policy for Cancellation of Deceased Citizens' CNIC
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued new policy guidelines regarding the Cancellation of deceased citizen identification cards and the issuing of death certificates.
Officials at NADRA say the agency receives recurring complaints from the public concerning the difficulties encountered when dealing with CNICs of a deceased individual.
Complex Procedure
People who do not want their deceased ancestors CNIC blocked cannot do so due to a complex procedure. According to an anonymous official, political parties use these CNIC numbers to cast bogus votes that cannot be verified.
Affidavit Requirement
The NADRA Head of Operations has issued policy guidelines to all regional and department heads across the nation to ensure that this does not happen again. To cancel your CNIC, you will need to provide an affidavit from your closest relative.
Many people are contacting the authority regarding listing their dead parent's spouses, and blood relatives in the NADRA database," a news outlet reported.
Failing In Submitting The Required Documents
People who requested death certificates of their loved ones previously failed to submit documentary evidence, such as hospital or union council (UC) death certificates or graveyard certificates required under the previous policy.
Several factors could have contributed to the death of the deceased. Including an inability to acquire these documents before death, access to social services or lack thereof before death, or the deceased coming from an area without social services.
Following The Complicated Process
NADRA said individuals must follow complicated procedures, such as obtaining a court order or having the chief minister approve an entry into the country late. Many people avoid the paperwork because it is so complicated. Keeping in mind the general public's difficulties and encouraging updating and correction of records, NADRA has decided to process the Cancellation of CNICs after death according to the following documents and options.
According to the new policy, the applicant should provide UC, the hospital, or the cemetery with a death certificate or give any other blood relative an affidavit following the official format for NICOP cancellation.
